As Chris mentioned in his last Letter from the Chairman, we’re doubling down on the community content as we get closer and closer to launch. While we understand you might not be able to catch everything the first time, we’ve created a handy cheat sheet of all of the content released throughout the week. All you “completionists” will be able to check back every Saturday for a weekly roundup of everything Star Citizen…
And one last friendly reminder that the Orion is available for sale until Monday, March 2nd. If you want RSI’s premier mining ship, you can check it out HERE.

Greetings Citizens,
It looks like the Orion is a hit! We’ve reviewed feedback from the Orion concept launch last week and have asked concept artist George Hull to update the crew cabin with something that will be easier to ‘fly’ in the ‘verse. The new concepts, created today, are available for review in this post. Do you like this version, or do you prefer the offset cabin? Let us know in the comments!
If you’re interested in pledging for an Orion during the concept sale, you can learn more here. Act fast: the sale ends Monday!
A slight issue has showed up today when I started packing up things for 4.88.1. This issue is mostly due to cloudflare and how that matter was fixed to ensure nobody was kept out.
Long story short, making sure everyone is upgraded properly would be very complicated as we have users that have the game installed but suffer of various issues that have been adressed. The possibilities of things blowing up due to users using the new installer and users still using the old one with upgrading would make it extremely complicated to be efficent in any way.
This is why we will have to release 4.88.1 as a new installer. It will not be released through the patch system. Everyone will have to download the new installer and proceed with a new installation. Thankfully this is the only time we will have to do this, as it is due to extremely specific circumstances.
Please note that 4.88.1 is NOT released yet. We will let you know when it is.

In my last letter, I announced that we are moving away from the traditional stretch goals in favor of spending more time diving into how Star Citizen will work. The design post on the basic mechanics of mining in Star Citizen is a great example of this. Mining and the reveal of the Orion are the result of Star Citizen’s unique synergy. The ship you see was visualized by George Hull, a Hollywood artist who has worked on everything from The Matrix to Transformers to Chappie… for a role developed in Austin, Texas by Tony Zurovec and the Persistent Universe team. I’ve often spoken about my desire to blend the techniques developed for filmmaking with the best aspects of traditional game design (something that goes back to my Wing Commander days), and you are seeing the result here. I’m pleased with both the system and the ship, and can’t wait to see both working in Star Citizen.
At CitizenCon, we talked about how we would like to double down on community content in 2015. This is something I believe in because it means better connecting backers to the game you’re making possible. In the last twenty four hours, you’ve seen the reveal of the RSI Orion, our design for mining in the persistent universe, a video round table from concept artists in Austin, an extended discussion of REC with Travis and Calix, a poll and first look at the Star Citizen box art and an Inside CIG on the recent mocap shoot at Imaginarium! Later tonight, we’ll have a new edition of Jump Point for our loyal subscribers. Tonight’s edition focuses on much of the planet side work being done in Austin and Montreal… and next month will be the long-awaited Retaliator issue!

What I would really like to talk about today is what an exciting time this is in Star Citizen’s development. Building our universe is already the most creatively satisfying thing I’ve ever done. But the coming months are going to be something else. Without sharing internal target dates, I will tell you that we are entering into the tightest schedule we’ve ever had for public releases. In short order, you will see Arena Commander 1.1 (now with REC!), the FPS module and the so-called ‘social module,’ our first foray into the persistent universe. We’ve talked a lot about how Star Citizen will come together from disparate pieces over the past year, and we are now entering into when that happens. I can’t express how excited I am. Will there be unforeseen issues, bugs to squash and things to balance? Yes! …but I know that I have an amazing development team AND the best community ever assembled behind me. Stay tuned: it’s going to be big!
I’d also like to take a moment to thank all of the backers who have been helping with Arena Commander’s testing. We have thousands of players brave enough to try PTU releases which has helped the QA team immensely; our public patches are now more stable on release and we are able to focus more effort on balancing. A special credit for those who helped us stress test the servers earlier in the week; we discovered and fixed a bug that we would have otherwise not seen. We’re going to try again this next week, so tune in Monday, February 23rd at 1 PM PST when hopefully you’ll have a better chance of battling members of the dev team!
Backing and playing aren’t the only ways to help determine Star Citizen’s future, though. Your support of the game, your sharing it with others and spreading the word is what’s making this endeavor possible. I’d like to share the latest from years1hundred in this space. You may remember him as the creator of the original Imagine trailer, and his latest work is just as good. We’ve been talking internally about creating a “Career” campaign for Star Citizen when the Persistent Universe launches and we have enough gameplay footage to showcase the various roles you can play as it’s a great way to highlight the promise of Star Citizen’s open universe. Years1hundred (Simon Peña) must have been reading our mind! It’s always a great feeling to see proof that backers understand the possibility behind Star Citizen just like the team and I do.
Speaking of fan videos, a number of backers have been disappointed that we no longer highlight them on Around the Verse. To that end, we’ve asked Jared Huckaby, who you may know as Disco Lando, to put together a sort of ‘Talk Soup’ for Star Citizen fan videos. The pilot of Wonderful World of Star Citizen will run next week; it’s an irreverent look at the Star Citizen community FROM the Star Citizen community, and I’m eager to see it evolve the same way as our other productions. The backers who put so much blood, sweat and tears into supporting the game need a platform, and we’re going to build one. Additionally, the upcoming Community Hub at the RSI site will allow us to highlight fan videos, streams, art, ship designs and more… and you’ll be seeing more information on that soon.

Let’s talk events! Everyone on the team who attended last month’s Town Hall has expressed how energized they were from being able to interact with backers. We have plenty of upcoming events, including PAX East and the SXSW Interactive closing party. Meeting members of the community and talking to them about their desires and dreams for Star Citizen keeps us going through the toughest bugs and design challenges. I’m happy to announce here that at PAX East in Boston you will get your first chance to play the First Person Shooter’s zero-gravity Battlesphere mode. We’ll have demo machines up and running at the event, so please consider joining us. You can learn more here.
Finally, I know that everyone is expecting me to talk more about Rental Equipment Credits. I took part in the heated discussion over the weekend and one of our priorities this week was clarifying some of the confusion about the system. I don’t have much to add right now, but I do want to stress: we asked for your feedback because we genuinely wanted it. A sincere thank you to everyone who provided that feedback. I’ll stress: we’re going to create a system that’s fun, not one that hurts players. Like everything else in Star Citizen, we will balance and expand our system to that goal once it launches until it meets our vision, and we will not settle for less.

I will close with the traditional thank you. There’s no million dollar milestone being celebrated, but there doesn’t have to be. The Star Citizen community does things every day that deserve our thanks. From testing the game to supporting the team to rallying for us to succeed (and telling us when we’re wrong!) this game has your DNA through and through. Thank you for making it possible. We have a hard few months ahead of us on the team, but it’s the best work in the world. And after that, we can look forward to a major motion capture shoot at which Squadron 42’s script will finally become a reality! You in the community will be the first to share in all of this.

The RSI Orion is mankind’s premiere spatial mining platform, fully compatible with all Mark IV Remote Mining Devices, and featuring an onboard refinery and a system of saddlebag-class storage units.
For advanced mining operations, the RSI Orion is second to none. The Orion carries a crew of up to six, responsible for flight operations, engineering and manning both turrets and pre-installed drone interfaces.
Onboard accommodations, while industrial in style, support all crew for extended duration mining runs. A genuine complete mining solution, a single Orion can locate, identify and extract lucrative ores, or it can be paired with explorers and transports to form the centerpiece of a larger-scale mining operation! Get to the core of the matter with the all-new RSI Orion.

Unladen. The Orion’s mass will significantly increase when carrying ore. Additionally, please note that mass data for large ships are currently inaccurate in comparison to smaller craft. The Orion’s mass represents our first attempt at a more scientific method for determining mass which will be applied to all large spacecrafts upon review by the design team.

Concept Sale ends March 2nd
The Orion is being offered for the first time as a limited concept sale. This means that the ship design meets our specifications, but it is not yet ready to display in your Hangar or to fight in Arena Commander. The sale includes Lifetime Insurance on the ship hull and a pair of decorative items for your Hangar. A future patch will add a Orion poster and then once the in-game model is finished you will also be given an in-game Orion mini ship model! In the future, the ship price will increase and the offer will not include Life Time Insurance or these extras.
If you’d like to add one to your fleet, they’re available in the pledge store until Monday March 2nd. You can also view a detail of the Orion in the Holo Viewer in the Tech Overview of the ship page!
We have a mini-game related to this concept sale that will be released for everyone to play during the sale. Stay tuned for when it goes live!
Remember: we are offering this pledge ship to help fund Star Citizen’s development. All of these ships will be available for in-game credits in the final universe, and they are not required to start the game. Additionally, all decorative ‘flare’ items will also be available to acquire in the finished game world. The goal is to make additional ships available that give players a different experience rather than a particular advantage when the persistent universe launches.

HOW TO #HelpTheHerald
1. Attend our PAX East event! You can buy tickets HERE.
2. Like and share the image from Facebook and Twitter using the hashtag #HelpTheHerald.
3. Send us your best guess for what the image is!
As PAX East approaches, the image will come into focus. We currently have 25% of the image decrypted and are working towards 50% clarity, but we need your assistance. Our systems show that if we sell another 100 tickets we will have enough power to give the decryption process another chance. So let’s #HelpTheHerald!
UPDATE: We collected the energy of 100+ retweets, and the Herald was able to further decrypt the image! We’re now at 50% and were able to find this hidden message…
Citizens attending PAX East 2015 in Boston will be the first to play the unreleased FPS module and go head to head against the CIG devs!

Alan Nuevo:Welcome back to the Empire Report. We go now to a developing story, as new and urgent travel restrictions are being put into place for the entirety of the Goss system in response to the growing concerns surrounding spreading cases of Lynch Fever. For more on the latest, here is Empire Report’s very own Beck Russum.
Beck Russum: Thanks, Alan.
It was an over a year ago that the first reported cases of Lynch Fever first started appearing in Stanton, Nemo and Goss. It seemed for a while that the strict quarantine measures put into place during the last outbreak had been able to get the infection under control. However all that changed when five days ago the first new cases of Lynch Fever in over four months began to appear in Lyre on Cassel. The spread has been rapid. We have new numbers coming in right now. 102 people across 14 cities. 18 new cases in just the past day.
Though the TDD was quick to ground all ships scheduled to leave the planet, new restrictions were announced earlier today that will severely limit all travel to and from the system. Garret Waldon, Associate Director of the Trade & Development Division, released a statement an hour ago ensuring that while all necessary precautions will be taken against the outbreak gaining a wider foothold in the Empire, aid and resources will still be able to make their way to the planet’s surface. The Navy will be working in conjunction with the TDD to enforce the blockade.
Early reports seem to link the first cases to a Genesis-Class starliner that arrived in the resort city on Thursday. If this is true, it may hint at an off-world source of the disease. Of course, since people become infectious long before they show symptoms, it makes tracking the disease’s path a particularly difficult problem. The Imperator spoke earlier today saying that the danger is real, and warned people to get immediately scanned if they are showing any symptoms of Lynch Fever such as fever, sweats, and gastrointestinal pain.
Senate lawmakers are set to discuss the situation today. It will be the first time that the Senate has taken up the Lynch Fever outbreak publically. Officials are saying that this recent batch of cases should be seen as a wakeup call and are pushing for additional resources and funding to be dedicated to the eradication of this deadly disease.
Last night, Cassel Governor Shandra Pesco caused controversy with her remarks in protest of the travel restrictions, proposing that visitors to her world be allowed to leave if they clear the appropriate scans. She has since walked back a little from those remarks, saying that of course travel should be limited if it means saving people’s lives.
Terra has begun to issue its own restrictions on any travelers who have been to Goss in the past week, opening up makeshift holding centers where people will be monitored for 21 days, the maximum amount of time Lynch Fever symptoms can lie dormant.
To give us the latest implications of this health crisis, we are joined now by Dr. Illeana Byrne, who has been with us every step of the way during this most recent outbreak. Dr. Byrne?
Dr. Illeana Byrne:To everyone watching Empire Report, I want to make it very clear that it is terribly important to be aware of any signs of symptoms. This is especially true with younger members of your family. Children in particular are extremely susceptible to contracting Lynch Fever, as are people who may already have compromised immune systems, such as the elderly.
Beck Russum: And if they do experience symptoms?
Dr. Illeana Byrne:This may seem counter to common sense, but the best thing to do is to stay put. Moving to a med center only increases the risk of infecting other people. Much better to comm a health official and wait for a unit to come and scan you at home.
Beck Russum: There has been some concern about these extremely strict travel restrictions, that blockading an entire system is too severe. That they are causing more harm than good. That they are keeping families apart. Do you think such draconian measures are needed?
Dr. Illeana Byrne:When I talk to Citizens, when I talk to parents, when I talk to anyone, I explain that as a physician and as a public health expert, I can tell you that these travel restrictions are very necessary. Right now we still have hopes of containing this most recent outbreak, but we will continue to see it spread if people don’t step up. We know how to control this. We’ve got to get on this.
Beck Russum: Thank you for being with us again tonight, Dr. Byrne. The Empire Report will continue to provide crucial updates as this story develops. Alan.
Alan Nuevo:Lynch Fever. Not something you want to mess with. Our thoughts are with all those in Goss tonight.
Sataball opening day is right around the corner and when we come back, Argia Mumbo stops by with a few party planning tips to make sure you start your season off right. You don’t want to miss it.

Hey there folks! As you all know, Discovery Freelancer is not an original game. Being a large expansion of 'Freelancer' made by Microsoft, we technically don't own a slot in the game world, as we're nothing more besides of a very large expansion of what was laid out to us by Microsoft.
We count on
you
as players to continue keeping this place alive and well. The mod was created for the players, and survives on the players. We're lucky to have a Dev team who still works on the game after the 9 years which this Mod has been in existence for. Public appeal is very, very important for us to keep living. ModDB is a large part of the players coming into Discovery.
A large variety of people have discovered us through ModDB, and have joined the community in some way or another soon afterwards. Sadly, right now our modDB page is rather inactive. Desolate. Not a very good sign for any players looking for a Freelancer mod. As of right now, the Discovery team already has our hands really full, and are unable to actively pay attention to the ModDB content, since we already have our hands full with other things going on internally on Discovery.
We believe that it's time to extend our hand out to the community for anyone who is willing to help us get a little public appeal. Content submitted by the community, having a good chance to show up publicly to appeal to the masses that the ModDB provides, targeting users who are looking for specific mods of their favorite games.
As of right now, we're looking for anyone who might have some cool content that would help spice up our slowly becoming desolate page. While the Staff will take care of the major stuff, such as the new updates and patches (The .88 announcement is going up today, that's late already) -- Player content is more than welcome.[/feedquote]
